How a community wind turbine has led to a host of environmental projects.

Originally, CARE started out on a quest to put up a turbine near Llanfyrnach in North Pembrokeshire. After 13 years, planning permission was granted for a community wind turbine to be erected at Trefawr Farm, near Llanfyrnach. The 700kW wind turbine was installed in October 2019.

Since then CARE has grown, it is now made up of a number of projects that have the core aim to strengthen the local community while being environmentally minded.

The county ward of Crymych, where CARE has it’s home, is one of the two in Wales most at risk of fuel poverty. The income generated through selling clean electricity has helped CARE to tackle that issue, as well as supporting community facilities and households to reduce their carbon footprint, creating and supporting local green enterprises, and helping communities become more resilient to changes in climate by delivering training in land-based skills.
